Vote FOR Amendment # 3 - My Proposal to Restore Your Rights as Delegates

Click on the link below to view Amendment #3, which you will be asked to vote on at Saturday's State Convention.  It is my proposal to restore the power of state delegates in the Utah Republican Party to bring amendments to the party's Constitution and/or Bylaws without being blocked by the State Central Committee's Constitution and Bylaws Committee.

For as long as Utah has been a state, the delegates in the Republican Party have had this power.  But it was taken away in 2004 during the administration of Joe Cannon and Enid Greene Mickelsen, first by a fiat decree of the officers and C&B Committee members, and then by a quiet move in the State Central Committee that never came to you, the delegates, for ratification.

In spite of a resolution which I sponsored, adopted by more than 95 percent of the 2005 state delegates demanding the restoration of this power, party insiders have stood firm, fixed in their unwillingness to allow this measure to come to you for a vote.

Last year, Enid Greene Mickelsen, acting as convention chair, once again blocked this proposal from being considered, using parliamentary pretense to deny you a right that you are required to have under terms of Utah Election Law.

One of the most important items that you will consider at this year's state convention is whether this power to amend the Constitution will be restored to the delegates, once and for all.  I urge you to study my proposal and then come to the convention determined not to let anyone get in the way of restoring this important power to you, the state delegates.
